About

I've been teaching since I was thirteen. Six years before 2010 and then again from 2019, so thirteen years altogether. I'm Assistant Director of the Vivace Youth Orchestras.

Although I'm a professional bassist, I've been playing and teaching violin, viola and cello for decades. I took lessons for fifteen years growing up, and I'm working on a degree in bass performance at BYU.

How I teach

Everyone works through the Suzuki books. That's the foundation and nobody skips it, whatever age they start. I've taken the Suzuki teacher training on all four instruments.

Students who are older, or further along, get extra material on top of that. The books build the foundation and the rest is added to it.

What I want is students playing in tune, with a decent sound, reading music properly. Reading it and understanding it aren't the same, and I want both.

I hold students to a high standard and I'm patient about it. You can be endlessly patient with a seven-year-old who's trying. It's turning up having not opened the case that I mind.

If someone's ill or something comes up, tell me on your page and I'll move the lesson. I do it most weeks for somebody.

Where

I teach out of my house in Pleasant Grove. Students come from Lehi, American Fork, Vineyard and the towns nearby.
